Komainu, the regulated digital asset custody service provider trusted by institutions, announces the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore an integration with the leading digital asset trading platform Bitfinex into its innovative collateral management platform, Komainu Connect. This collaboration is enabled by Ledger Enterprise’s off-exchange trading and settlement technology, Ledger Tradelink™, which allows institutional customers to trade through the Bitfinex platform, while assets remain in segregated custody with Komainu.

Komainu Connect addresses the industry need to reduce client counterparty risk associated with storing collateral with trading counterparties. By enabling assets to remain safely stored with a regulated custodian, institutional investors will be able to capitalize on trading opportunities through Bitfinex while maintaining asset security and regulatory compliance.

Komainu continues to expand its Komainu Connect platform, integrating with exchanges directly, and through various underlying technologies. This enables fast and efficient connections, allowing clients to access a wide range of trading venues and prime brokers. This strategic move underscores the value of industry collaboration as the institutional digital asset ecosystem matures. As a result, Komainu is becoming the preferred custodian for both clients and exchange partners.

This collaboration with Bitfinex is powered by Ledger Enterprise’s off-exchange trading and settlement technology, Ledger Tradelink™. Bitfinex is the first exchange to join Ledger Tradelink™, allowing users to trade directly from self-custody or via their regulated custodian.

We are thrilled to welcome Bitfinex to our Komainu Connect platform,” said Paul Frost-Smith, CO-CEO at Komainu. “This collaboration expands our ecosystem of trusted exchanges, further enhancing liquidity across our growing network of trading venues from centralised exchanges, OTC desks, market makers and prime brokers.”

“Our collaboration with Komainu Connect reflects our commitment to expanding secure trading options for our customers and provides an additional layer of security for institutional investors by allowing them to leverage Komainu’s regulated custody solution while still accessing Bitfinex’s robust trading environment,” said Paolo Ardoino, CTO of Bitfinex.

“Our collaboration with Komainu and Bitfinex heralds a new era for capital markets through the launch of a new open protocol standard for off-exchange trading. We’ve long believed that establishing a unified standard for off-exchange collateral pledging and settlement among custodians, exchanges, and liquidity providers is crucial for scaling the institutional digital asset market. We’re delighted that Komainu and Bitfinex have chosen to integrate Ledger Tradelink technology, and we look forward to bringing this groundbreaking solution to market.” added Sebastien Badault, Executive VP of Enterprise Revenue at Ledger.

Established in 2018, Komainu offers compliant custody services designed specifically for institutional investment in digital assets. With its multi-asset support and rigorous regulatory framework, Komainu continues to merge traditional financial services with cutting-edge security standards.
