Janus Henderson Partners with UC Berkeley

Janus Henderson  announced a research and education partnership with UC Berkeley Executive Education This partnership enables Janus Henderson to grow its mission of investing in a brighter future together by embarking on bespoke research and education programs for the asset manager’s investment teams, covering the financial impacts of climate change and biodiversity.

During the initial phase of the partnership, Janus Henderson and UC Berkeley faculty will co-develop curriculums for portfolio managers and analysts, distributing and embedding the content across various modules for their benefit. These activities will enable colleagues to closely evaluate the financial impact of climate change and biodiversity across companies and markets worldwide. The partnership will leave room across subsequent phases for investment teams to collaborate with UC Berkeley professors and clients on additional research verticals.

UC Berkeley’s notable scientific and business strengths make it a strategic partner for Janus Henderson. This partnership is unique in that it is designed specifically for investors and combines UC Berkeley’s academic infrastructure with Janus Henderson’s portfolio research and data. Merging techniques and data from academia and the investing space can generate unique capabilities and ultimately improved financial outcomes for clients.

Michelle Dunstan, Chief Responsibility Officer at Janus Henderson said, “We are joining forces with UC Berkeley Executive Education, to launch The Janus Henderson x Berkeley Insight Collective. We are excited to leverage UC Berkeley’s scientific research capabilities, backed by an impressive heritage of 60 Nobel laureates, the leading Haas School of Business, and the Rausser College of Natural Resources to enhance our investing process. Climate change and biodiversity are two of many factors that can impact cash flows, valuations, and cost of capital. Our work with UC Berkeley faculty will give investing teams, and ultimately clients, the tools they need to enhance holistic financial assessment of company performance.”

Dara O’Rourke, Associate Professor at UC Berkeley’s Rausser College of Natural Resources said, “Managers and investors need to be able to measure and act on the short and long-term risks to supply chains from climate change. Here at UC Berkeley, we are bringing together the latest climate science, with business analytics, to support the innovations we need to drive climate solutions.”
