06.28.2016

Taipei [28, June, 2016]
The Taiwan Stock Exchange Corporation (TWSE) and Bursa Malaysia Berhad (Bursa Malaysia) just signed the second Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to undertake a joint study to explore capital market opportunities to expand various areas of potential cross-border cooperation, namely in exchange traded funds (ETFs), indices, market connectivity, and market promotional activities. An earlier Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation and exchange was signed by the TWSE and Bursa Malaysia in 1999.

Mr. Sush-der Lee, Chairman of the TWSE, said, “We welcome the opportunity to expand our cooperation with Bursa Malaysia. The TWSE has been proactive in building alliances with overseas exchanges in line with the Financial Supervisory Commission’s (FSC) Financial Import Substitution Program and its efforts to encourage the further internationalization of the Taiwan capital market. This second MoU with Bursa Malaysia further expands the scope of our cooperative relationship and will help us determine the best way to create value for the Taiwanese and Malaysian trading communities.”

Datuk Seri Tajuddin Atan, CEO of Bursa Malaysia Berhad said, “The economic relations between Malaysia and Taiwan has been good, with Taiwan being Malaysia’s 7th largest trading partner in 2015. Since our first MOU in 1999, our business relationship with TWSE has always been open, cordial and collaborative.  We look forward to the possibility of having greater cooperation with TWSE, which would unlock the capital market potential and opportunities in both our markets.  The joint cross-border study under the second MOU will enable TWSE and Bursa Malaysia to assess and prioritise potential collaborations that would provide greater access to investments and investors in both our markets.”
