Describe the highlights of your career to date and your current role/responsibilities.

Liz Kirby, Tradeweb

Liz Kirby, Tradeweb

I currently lead Product Management for Tradeweb’s U.S. Rates business, focusing on driving our long-term strategy and developing tools and solutions to enhance our market-leading institutional rates businesses. But my career at Tradeweb has grown and progressed alongside the ongoing evolution of electronic trading in these products. I have been fortunate enough to work closely with various industry groups and regulatory bodies over the years, and am proud of our efforts to inform market structure and best practices which have helped shape today’s fixed income and derivatives markets.

What do you do to be recognized as a rising star?
As fixed income and market structure continues to evolve, I am passionate about being an active participant in that change. Working across markets and different businesses at Tradeweb, I have built and implemented original products and functionalities that drive improved access to liquidity and generate workflow efficiencies.

In particular, I played an integral role in the launch of Tradeweb’s market-leading swap execution facilities (SEFs), supporting electronic trading of derivatives as mandated by the Dodd-Frank Act. I also developed a number of innovative trading and workflow solutions for our derivatives businesses, including Tradeweb’s swap compression tool. Today, we are the top trading platform for interest rate swaps (IRS), and continue to see increasing volume growth across our credit derivatives offering.

What is your perspective on being a successful woman working in financial markets, and what is your advice to those who may strive for this?
We all know that working hard is important, but it goes hand-in-hand with doing something you love or that challenges you. Early on, I knew I wanted to play a role in the evolution of the financial markets, and at Tradeweb, I’ve been able to realize that objective. It’s important to capitalize on every opportunity to grow professionally while never losing sight of your goal.

To anyone striving for success, immerse yourself in your work and maintain an unwavering commitment to building trust and delivering accurate and reliable results to colleagues and clients alike. In a marketplace that’s constantly changing, there are lots of opportunities where you can make a meaningful impact, and I really love that. Tradeweb has been a significant leader of that change, beginning with the electronification of the Treasury market all the way back in 1998, and participating in that transformation has been central to my professional growth.
