Arden Majewski will be joining CIBC as managing director and global head of commodities trading. Majewski will report to Christian Exshaw, managing director and head of capital markets trading.

“Arden has successfully designed and managed commodities trading desks, and has a record of building strong client relationships,” said Exshaw. “That experience will be relied upon as we continue to grow and strengthen our commodities business.”

Majewski has over 13 years of commodities trading experience. Prior to joining CIBC, he was at Mecuria Energy Trading America, a large independent energy trading firm based in Houston. Majewski was also formerly head of Americas Financial Gas, at Merrill Lynch.

In a market heavily comprised of energy companies, Majewski will work closely with CIBC’s capital markets team, in Canada, and also New York, London and Asia. He will be based in New York City.

Commodity traders can be expected to focus on theme such as fluctuation oil and gas prices, rising demand for food, and natural resources in the emerging markets. Overall, commodity price movement will be dependent on how the global economic recovery unfolds.

Majewski does not start at CIBC until August 8, and could not be available for comment.
